Initiated by the Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL), this free Wi-Fi service began its experimental phase last Friday, marking a significant leap in the country’s transportation technology.

Initial Routes and Trains
During this pilot phase, passengers traveling on the following three popular routes will have access to the service:

Poryotok Express: Operating on the Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar route.

Upoban Express: Operating on the Dhaka-Sylhet route.

Bonolota Express: Operating on the Dhaka-Rajshahi route.

Seamless Connectivity via QR Code
The Advisor for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Rehan Asif Asad, personally inspected the Starlink installation last Wednesday. Passengers can connect to the high-speed network simply by scanning a QR code placed inside the train compartments. This technology ensures that even when traveling through remote areas or hilly terrains where mobile network signals are typically weak, passengers can remain connected for official work or entertainment.

Vision for a Digital Future
Imadur Rahman, the Managing Director and CEO of BSCL, stated that this initiative is a core part of the government’s commitment to building a "Digital Bangladesh." By utilizing Starlink’s low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, the government aims to provide a stable, high-speed alternative to traditional cellular data. While currently in a trial phase, the government plans to expand this service to all intercity trains across the national railway network based on user feedback and technical performance.
