Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Inaugurates Honorarium Program for Religious Leaders
The historic initiative was launched on Saturday morning, March 14, 2026, during a ceremony at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
Under this pilot project, 4,908 mosques and 1,530 other religious institutions—including temples, Buddhist monasteries, and churches—will receive direct financial assistance. According to the Ministry of Public Administration, the monthly breakdown of the honorarium is as follows:
For Mosques: A total of 10,000 BDT (Imam: 5,000 BDT; Muezzin: 3,000 BDT; Khadem: 2,000 BDT).
For Other Places of Worship: A total of 8,000 BDT (Head/Priest: 5,000 BDT; Assistant: 3,000 BDT).
The funds will be disbursed directly to the beneficiaries' bank accounts. The government estimates that the full implementation of this project will require an annual allocation of 4,400 crore BDT. The Prime Minister emphasized that this facility will eventually be expanded to cover every place of worship across the country.
