Fascist-Free New Bangladesh Has Begun: President in Parliament
He emphasized that a new democratic Bangladesh, free from foreign subservience and autocracy, has emerged through the supreme sacrifice of thousands of martyrs.
The President highlighted the current administration's core philosophy, "Work to Build, Nation First," identifying anti-corruption measures and the restoration of law and order as the government's top priorities. He lauded several social welfare initiatives, including the introduction of 'Family Cards' for every household, free education for women up to the postgraduate level, and an ambitious environmental project to plant 50 million trees annually. His speech also touched upon the government's commitment to poverty alleviation and women’s empowerment through micro-credit programs.
Presenting an economic roadmap, President Shahabuddin noted that the national economy has achieved significant stability in the 2024-25 fiscal year. He reported that inflation dropped to 8.58% by January 2026, while foreign exchange reserves climbed to $34.78 billion as of February 19, 2026. To restore integrity in the financial sector, he announced the formation of an Economic Reform Commission to tackle defaulted loans and a separate commission to investigate past irregularities in the capital market. Following his comprehensive address on domestic and international affairs, the session was adjourned until March 15.
