The session was presided over by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who was sworn in last month following the party's landslide victory on February 12. With the first session of the new parliament scheduled for tomorrow, March 12, the meeting focused on finalizing the leadership structure of the House and ensuring a disciplined legislative agenda.

The Prime Minister and the BNP parliamentary party have reportedly finalized the nominations for the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker. While official names are expected to be announced shortly before tomorrow’s session, senior party members indicate a strong consensus on appointments that reflect both experience and the government's commitment to reform. In a move aimed at fostering political inclusivity, the government is also considering a proposal to appoint a member from the opposition alliance as the Deputy Speaker, adhering to the principles of the "National Charter" signed during the transitional period.

Beyond leadership appointments, the meeting addressed the coordination of various parliamentary standing committees and the government’s priority bills. Chief Whip Nurul Islam emphasized that the first session will be critical for ratifying several essential ordinances passed by the interim government. The Prime Minister urged all newly elected lawmakers to remain accountable to the people and to treat the parliament as the center of all national activities, signaling a departure from previous legislative cultures and focusing on a "people-first" governance model.
