Mob Culture to be Eradicated from Bangladesh, Warns Home Minister
Speaking to reporters after a law and order coordination meeting in Cox's Bazar on Monday (March 9), the Minister emphasized that the government is committed to completely eradicating mob justice from the country. He clarified that incidents involving the detention or physical assault of individuals are specific criminal offenses under the law and should not be generalized merely as 'mob' actions. He further assured that any attempt to create chaotic mob situations, especially on public roads, would be met with strict legal consequences.
Addressing the broader security situation, the Minister reaffirmed that no organized criminals, extortionists, or individuals with illegal firearms would be spared. The ongoing joint operations across the country will continue until criminal elements are fully neutralized. This visit marked the Minister's first official trip to his hometown of Cox's Bazar since the new government took office following the February 12 elections. The meeting, which lasted for two hours, was attended by local lawmakers and top law enforcement officials, focusing on maintaining peace and stability in the region.
