Prime Minister to Launch Family Card Pilot Program Tomorrow
The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the T&T ground adjacent to the Korail slum in Dhaka, where the Prime Minister will personally hand over the first set of cards to local women. In a significant move toward digital transparency, the first month's financial assistance will be credited to the beneficiaries' mobile wallets via the Government-to-Person (G2P) system immediately following the launch.
Under this pilot phase, each selected family will receive a monthly cash allowance of BDT 2,500. The program aims to ensure economic security for marginalized and low-income households, with a specific focus on women's empowerment as the cards are primarily issued in the name of the female head of the family. A high-level press conference is scheduled for 2:30 PM today at the Ministry of Finance to provide further technical details on the distribution and the integrated NID verification process.
The pilot project covers 14 specific areas across the country to test the system's efficiency before a nationwide rollout. In Dhaka, the locations include the Korail, Shattola, and Bhasantek slums, alongside wards in Mirpur and Shah Ali. Nationally, the program extends to Patiya in Chattogram, Bancharampur in Brahmanbaria, Lama in Bandarban, and several other upazilas including Bogura Sadar, Thakurgaon Sadar, and Dinajpur's Nawabganj. Senior ministers, including Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, will be present at various regional sites to oversee the local implementation.
