Bangladesh Urges US to Facilitate Ceasefire in Middle East

During the discussion, the Foreign Minister expressed Dhaka’s deep concern over the escalating war, noting that a prolonged conflict would negatively impact the global community. Bangladesh emphasized the necessity of an immediate diplomatic resolution, though the Minister remarked that the timeline for ending the war does not rest solely with the United States.

Dr. Rahman expressed optimism that Bangladesh-US relations would expand further, with the US committing to continued support regarding the Rohingya crisis. While mentioning that Bangladesh needs to rethink its approach toward the Indo-Pacific region, he clarified that no discussions regarding military cooperation took place.

Furthermore, the US Assistant Secretary of State reportedly described Bangladesh's recent elections as "peaceful and free." Discussions also touched upon trade tariffs effective from February 2025 and existing trade agreements, which will be managed in accordance with Bangladeshi law.
