Indian Visa Operations to Normalize Soon: High Commissioner Pranay Verma
Following separate meetings with Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and Home Minister Salauddin Ahmed on Monday (March 2), the High Commissioner noted that while security concerns had limited operations over the past 18 months, the issuance of medical visas is currently prioritized and other categories will follow suit. Addressing concerns over hacking attempts on the visa portal, the Home Minister assured full security for Indian establishments and directed the DMP's Cyber Crime Unit to take immediate action.
Home Minister Salauddin Ahmed emphasized that the bedrock of Bangladesh-India relations should be people-to-people contact rather than inter-party political ties. He called for reducing border killings to zero and viewed mutual interdependence as a shared strength rooted in common history and culture. Meanwhile, Commerce Minister Muktadir highlighted plans to reopen closed border haats and land ports to boost bilateral trade. Congratulating the newly elected government, High Commissioner Verma reiterated India's commitment to working jointly with Bangladesh, specifically focusing on skill development through the ITEC training programs.
