DMP Commissioner Sazzat Ali’s Appointment Cancelled
According to a notification issued on Sunday, March 1, 2026, the decision was made in the public interest following a formal request from Sazzat Ali himself, who cited personal and family reasons for stepping down. The order took effect immediately, terminating the remainder of his two-year contract.
Sazzat Ali’s departure follows his resignation submission on February 25, 2026, just months into his tenure. A member of the 1984 BCS Police cadre, he had been appointed on a two-year contract on November 20, 2024, during a period of significant police restructuring. His resignation coincided with a broader reshuffle in the top tiers of law enforcement, including the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police (IGP).
In the interim, Additional Commissioner (Administration) Md. Sarwar has been tasked with overseeing the daily operations of the DMP. This temporary assignment was confirmed in a notification signed by the newly appointed IGP, Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, on February 26. Md. Sarwar will serve as the acting chief to ensure administrative continuity until the government appoints a permanent successor to lead the capital’s police force.
