During an inspection of the two canals on Friday, he informed reporters that the government has set a target to recover all canals in Dhaka and restore their natural water flow by 2028. He noted that this special initiative has been undertaken following the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to make Dhaka free from waterlogging.

The State Minister further explained that alongside the re-excavation of the canals, aesthetic walkways will be constructed along both banks. Progress on these developments is expected to become visible shortly after the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. He also mentioned that the Ministers for Water Resources and Land would soon visit the sites for further assessment. Additionally, with the Eid holidays approaching, the State Minister pledged to ensure the safety and comfort of homebound passengers across road, water, and rail routes. He issued a stern warning against the imposition of any illegal tolls or extortion on passengers, stating that an ultimatum has already been given to end extortion in the transport sector and no offenders will be shown leniency.
