DMP Commissioner Sajjat Ali Resigns; Addl. Commissioner Md. Sarwar Takes Charge

According to a notification issued by the Police Headquarters on Thursday (February 26), Additional Police Commissioner (Supernumerary Additional IG) Md. Sarwar will handle the daily affairs of the DMP until a permanent successor is appointed.

Sajjat Ali cited "personal and family reasons" for his resignation. A member of the 1984 BCS Police cadre, Ali was previously dismissed in 2016 during the Awami League regime but was reinstated and appointed as the 38th DMP Commissioner after the mass uprising on August 5, 2024. His contractual tenure was supposed to last until this November. The government is expected to announce a new permanent Commissioner shortly.
