Cabinet Approves Waiver of Agri-Loans Up to Tk 10,000; 1.2 Million Farmers to Benefit

Presided over by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday (February 26), the meeting finalized this move to strengthen the backbone of the rural economy and ensure social security for poor farmers.

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani briefed reporters, stating that approximately 1.2 million farmers involved in crop cultivation, fisheries, and livestock will directly benefit from this decision. According to Bangladesh Bank data, around BDT 1,550 crore in outstanding dues as of February 25 will be covered under this waiver. This initiative fulfills a key electoral pledge of the government, aimed at relieving the debt burden of marginalized cultivators.
