Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Chairs First Cabinet Meeting; 180-Day Action Plan Unveiled
While the first introductory meeting was held shortly after the swearing-in ceremony on February 18, this session marked the formal commencement of administrative policy-making under the new BNP-led government. The meeting, held in the Cabinet Division's conference room, focused on establishing a strategic "180-day Roadmap" to address urgent national priorities following the landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The Prime Minister issued a stern set of directives aimed at providing immediate relief to the public, with a primary focus on breaking "market syndicates" to stabilize the prices of essential commodities. He emphasized a "zero-tolerance" policy toward nepotism, corruption, and the abuse of power within the administration. To ensure the systematic delivery of social services, the cabinet discussed the immediate rollout of Family Cards, Farmers' Cards, and Health Cards. Additionally, the Prime Minister instructed the relevant ministries to ensure hassle-free travel for citizens during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr and to prioritize the expansion of labor markets in the Middle East for Bangladeshi workers.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the restoration of the rule of law and administrative dynamism. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met with the secretaries of various ministries, urging them to implement the government's election manifesto and uphold the people's mandate. The cabinet also deliberated on the formation of a Media Commission for comprehensive reforms and discussed the maintenance of uninterrupted electricity and gas supplies. Cabinet Secretary Dr. Nasimul Ghani is expected to provide a detailed briefing to the media later today regarding the specific executive orders and legislative priorities approved during this historic session.
