ECNEC and Two Key Cabinet Committees Reconstituted Under PM Tarique Rahman

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday (February 24), BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will serve as the Alternate Chairperson. The committee includes ministers from key departments such as Finance, Planning, Agriculture, Home, and Foreign Affairs. ECNEC’s primary mandate is to review and approve development projects, monitor implementation, and provide strategic direction for the country’s overall economic situation and private investment.

In a parallel move, the government also reconstituted the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has been appointed as the Convener of both committees. The Purchase Committee, which includes ministers from Local Government, Home, and Power sectors, aims to ensure transparency in state procurement. Meanwhile, the Economic Affairs Committee will focus on broader policy frameworks. These administrative reshuffles are expected to bring a fresh perspective and better coordination to the nation’s economic decision-making process.
