Government to Reopen Closed and Sick Industrial Units to Boost Employment
On Tuesday (February 24), Atiqur Rahman Rumon, Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, shared this information, stating that the Prime Minister has directed relevant ministries to take immediate action. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s election pledge to restore closed industries, particularly jute and sugar mills, while ensuring the reinstatement of former workers and the creation of new job opportunities.
Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), confirmed that a high-level committee led by the Ministry of Industries has already commenced operations following the Prime Minister’s directives. The primary focus of this initiative is to modernize stagnant factories and integrate private sector expertise to ensure productivity. By reviving these industrial sectors, the government aims to foster a sustainable economic environment and generate large-scale employment across the country.
