Bangladesh Reaffirms Commitment to Revitalizing SAARC

He emphasized Bangladesh's steadfast adherence to the principles enshrined in the SAARC Charter, including sovereign equality, territorial integrity, political independence, and non-interference in the internal affairs of member states, all aimed at ensuring the mutual well-being of the region's people.

The Foreign Minister recalled that the concept of regional cooperation in South Asia was first initiated by Bangladesh in the early 1980s. This visionary move was led by the late President Ziaur Rahman to enhance the quality of life and foster collective self-reliance among the people of this region. As a founding member and the host of the inaugural SAARC Summit in 1985, as well as subsequent summits in 1993 and 2005, Bangladesh continues to recognize SAARC's vital role. Dr. Rahman highlighted the organization’s significant potential in fostering cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, connectivity, poverty alleviation, climate change, and public health.
