EU Envoys Meet Foreign Minister: Commitment to Democratic Reforms and Free Trade

During the meeting, the ambassadors extended their congratulations to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on BNP’s landslide victory in the recent national elections. They also welcomed the new Foreign Minister and State Minister Shama Obayed, reaffirming their commitment to working closely with the new administration. The EU delegation lauded Bangladesh's recent democratic transition and pledged continued support for critical reforms in the constitutional, judicial, and labor law sectors.

A major highlight of the discussion was the potential for a comprehensive Bangladesh-EU Free Trade Agreement, with both sides expressing interest in initiating formal talks. The dialogue also covered strategic cooperation in climate change, the blue economy, migration management, and human resource development. Dr. Khalilur Rahman expressed his gratitude to the EU for sending a substantial observation mission during the February 12 elections, reiterating the government's firm commitment to upholding the rule of law and democratic values.
