Who is Aminul Islam, the New Chief Prosecutor of ICT?

The appointment was confirmed on Monday (February 23) through a notification signed by Solicitor Manjurul Hossain. Tajul Islam, who had been serving in the role since September 5, 2024, was removed to make way for the new leadership.

Advocate Aminul Islam is a prominent legal figure and served as the Vice President of the Central Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum. He gained significant professional recognition as a lead defense lawyer in the BDR (now BGB) mutiny and murder cases, particularly for his arguments in favor of the acquittal and bail of the accused in the BDR explosives case. Hailing from Madhabpur in Habiganj, he is the husband of Advocate Sufia Akter Helen, the Vice Chair of Madhabpur Upazila Parishad. His primary task will now be to lead the prosecution of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising and cases of enforced disappearances under the previous regime.
