Mob Culture is Over; Strict Action Against Road Blockades: Home Minister
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday (February 23), the Minister declared that the days of realizing demands through road blockades and public harassment are over. He emphasized that the government will take strict legal action against anyone obstructing highways for irrational demands, urging citizens to follow formal channels like submitting memorandums or seeking legal recourse.
The Home Minister also announced significant reforms within the police force, stating that the controversial lottery-based deployment system has been scrapped in favor of merit and service records. He assured that innocent individuals and businessmen would not be harassed in cases filed after August 5 and instructed the police to verify such complaints thoroughly. Additionally, plans for appointing 'enlisted assistants' to reduce passport office hassles and the formation of an independent commission to investigate the BDR mutiny were highlighted. The Minister concluded that while illegal interference in police work will be stopped, any abuse of power by the force will also face consequences.
