He made these remarks to reporters following a courtesy meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed on Sunday (February 22). The Ambassador emphasized that China respects the sovereignty of every nation and prefers bilateral engagements to remain free from external influence.

Regarding the much-discussed Teesta project, Yao Wen confirmed that the matter was discussed and China is currently awaiting the Bangladesh government's decision. Responding to a query about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s potential visit to China, the envoy expressed optimism, noting that high-level visits have been a hallmark of their diplomatic history and China looks forward to welcoming the Prime Minister soon. This meeting signals a proactive start to diplomatic cooperation between the new administration and Beijing.
