Nation Pays Solemn Tribute to Language Martyrs at Central Shaheed Minar
As dawn broke on Saturday, the altar of the monument was blanketed in floral wreaths. Thousands of people—men, women, and children alike—assembled at the memorial barefoot and dressed in symbolic black and white attire, singing the soulful chorus of "Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano Ekushey February."
The state and individual tributes commenced in the early hours of the day. At 12:01 AM, President Mohammed Shahabuddin placed a floral wreath at the base of the Central Shaheed Minar, followed immediately by the Prime Minister. Subsequently, representatives from various political parties, socio-cultural organizations, and educational institutions paid their respects to the memory of the martyrs.
A massive influx of people continued throughout the day at the memorial site. Political leaders, representatives from government and private offices, and general citizens arrived with banners and posters to honor the occasion. The entire area transformed into a hub of profound emotion, centered on the glory of the language martyrs' sacrifice and the right to one's mother tongue. Law enforcement agencies remained vigilant to ensure security around the Shaheed Minar.
