“Mob Culture Is Over in Bangladesh,” Says Salahuddin Ahmed
He made the remarks on Wednesday evening while speaking to journalists after an introductory meeting with officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat.
The minister stated that democratic practices such as rallies and public gatherings would continue to be allowed. However, he warned that blocking roads and highways in the name of protests and creating public suffering under the guise of mob action would not be permitted.
Highlighting institutional reforms, he noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs encompasses more than just the police. Stressing the need to rebuild public trust, he said the police must be transformed into a people-friendly force and regain any lost credibility.
On corruption, he took a firm stance, saying the ministry must remain free from corruption, with accountability and transparency ensured at all levels. Any form of undue influence or illegal lobbying will not be tolerated.
He also added that if any member of the law enforcement agencies is found involved in wrongdoing, prompt investigation and necessary action will follow.
