Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat during his first official working day today, Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the veteran politician shared his vision for a dynamic ministry centered on democratic principles.

Minister Fakhrul emphasized that holding local government elections is a priority to strengthen the democratic structure at the grassroots level. He noted that the law and order situation has improved significantly and the economy has reached a level of stability following the successful 13th National Parliamentary Election. On his first day, he attended the inaugural cabinet meeting where Prime Minister Tarique Rahman provided directives on managing commodity prices and public welfare ahead of the upcoming month of Ramadan. The Minister also highlighted the urgent need to ensure social security through the effective distribution of Family Cards and support for farmers.

Regarding governance, Mirza Fakhrul took a firm stance against corruption, stating that the responsibility was taken specifically to eliminate corruption from the system and transform the department into a transparent ministry. He credited the outgoing interim government for successfully fulfilling its core mandate of transitioning the country back to an inclusive and globally accepted democratic process. Reflecting on the recent general election, where he was elected from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, the Minister remarked that the historic victory belongs to the people who fought for their right to vote over the last 18 months following the 2024 uprising.
