Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury Takes Charge of Finance and Planning Ministries
In the 13th parliamentary election, he won from Chattogram-11 constituency with 115,999 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Mohammad Shafiul Alam, secured 76,681 votes.
Following the announcement, party activists gathered at the BNP office in Nasimon Bhaban, Kazir Dewri, Chattogram, celebrating the appointment. Supporters expressed hope that he would play a key role in addressing Chattogram Port development and the city’s long-standing waterlogging problem.
A seasoned politician, Khasru is a member of BNP’s National Standing Committee. He previously served as Minister of Commerce and was credited with policy expertise and diplomatic engagement during challenging periods for the party. Observers believe his experience will be vital in managing the critical Finance and Planning portfolios.
Born in 1949 in North Kattoli, Chattogram, he graduated from Chattogram College before pursuing higher studies in accounting in the United Kingdom. Beyond politics, he is known in the business community as a founding chairman of the Chittagong Stock Exchange and former president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
