He made the remarks at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road on Saturday morning.

Riaz said the public voted in favor of reforms through a majority “Yes” vote, indicating a broad desire for change rather than maintaining the status quo.

According to Election Commission figures cited by him, about 77.6 million voters took part in the February 12 referendum — roughly 61 percent turnout. Around 68 percent voted “Yes” and about 31 percent voted “No.” Participation exceeded that of the parliamentary election, he added.

Quoting the chief adviser, Riaz said national transformation cannot come from unilateral decisions and must be grounded in public consent. The referendum was organized to give citizens a direct voice in shaping reform.

He added that the verdict represents more than numbers — it reflects the sacrifices and expectations of those involved in last year’s mass uprising and the responsibility entrusted to the authorities.
