60.26% Turnout in Referendum, ‘Yes’ Secures Clear Victory
In the referendum, the “Yes” vote secured 48,074,429 ballots, compared to 22,565,627 votes cast for “No,” giving the “Yes” side a decisive lead.
The results were officially announced on Friday (February 13) by Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at a press briefing held at the headquarters of the Bangladesh Election Commission in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Out of 299 constituencies, results for 297 were declared. According to the announcement:
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won 209 seats
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami secured 68 seats
Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) won 6 seats
Khelafat Majlish gained 2 seats
Additionally, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Gono Odhikar Parishad, Khelafat Andolon, Bangladesh Janata Party (BJP), and Ganosamhati Andolon each secured one seat, while independent candidates won 7 constituencies.
Meanwhile, following a court order, the results of Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 constituencies have been suspended.
