No cap on carrying cash during polls if source is legal: EC Secretary

Responding to a media query on Wednesday (February 11), he stated that not only Tk 5 million but even Tk 50 million could be carried if the funds are legitimate and properly documented.

He clarified that individuals may carry any amount of money for personal purposes as long as they can prove its lawful origin.

However, he warned that if the money is used to influence voters, the matter will be dealt with by the Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee. In cases involving illegal funds, law enforcement agencies will take appropriate action.

Earlier, police at Saidpur Airport detained Thakurgaon district Jamaat Ameer Belal Uddin Pradhan with around Tk 5 million in cash.
