Starting February 25, 2026, physical visa stickers (vignettes) and the previous grace periods for digital updates will be strictly phased out. Travelers must ensure their UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) account is fully synchronized with their current passport details before heading to the airport.

According to the new "No Permission, No Travel" policy, airlines and transport carriers are now legally required to verify a passenger's digital status—either an eVisa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)—before boarding. Failure to update passport information at least 48 to 72 hours prior to departure may result in denied boarding or significant delays at UK border control, as carriers will no longer have the discretion to allow travel based on manual document checks.

Key Requirements for Passengers

  • Mandatory ETA: Visitors from 85 previously visa-exempt countries (including the US, Canada, and EU) must now hold a valid ETA.

  • eVisa Transition: For those requiring a visa, physical stickers are being replaced by eVises. Travelers must access their UKVI account to ensure their current passport is linked.

  • Dual Citizens: Dual British citizens are strongly advised to travel on their British passport or carry a Certificate of Entitlement to avoid being flagged as "unauthorized" by automated carrier systems.

  • Update Timeline: Any changes to passport numbers, names, or contact details must be updated online via the official GOV.UK portal well in advance of the travel date.

British High Commissions globally, including in Dhaka, have already begun notifying travelers that the era of physical visa stickers is ending. The move is part of a broader UK initiative to create a "contactless border" by late 2026. Passengers are urged to visit www.gov.uk/eVisa to verify their status and avoid being caught in the upcoming enforcement deadline on February 25.
