Instead, the traditional passport sticker will be replaced by a digital eVisa. This electronic record will be linked to the traveler’s passport and stored securely in a UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) account. This move is part of the UK’s broader "Digital by Default" initiative aimed at streamlining border control, enhancing security, and significantly reducing the risk of document fraud or loss.

What This Means for Travelers:

  • Verification: Immigration status will be verified online by carriers (airlines, etc.) and border officers before boarding and upon arrival.

  • Online Account: Applicants must create and maintain a UKVI account to view their status and share it with others (such as employers or landlords) through a "share code."

  • Physical Documents: While stickers are being phased out, travelers must still carry the passport linked to their eVisa to ensure their identity matches the digital record.

  • ETA for Visa-Free Nationals: In a related update, the UK will also strictly enforce the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for visa-exempt countries starting the same day, February 25.

The High Commission has advised all visa applicants and current visa holders to visit the official government portal at www.gov.uk/eVisa to stay updated on how to access and manage their digital status.
