This move comes as part of the full implementation of the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system, which became effective on January 1 to enhance security and transparency within the country's mobile network.

The NEIR system has already automatically registered all active handsets currently in use, making it easier to track and control illegal or stolen devices. BTRC emphasized that even for changing SIM cards in a registered phone, de-registration is essential. To complete this process, users will need the last four digits of the NID or passport used during the original SIM registration. For detailed instructions, users can visit the official website at neir.btrc.gov.bd, or contact the BTRC helpline at 100 or visit any authorized customer care center for assistance.
