The Cyber Crime Unit of the DB confirmed on Sunday, February 1, that a forensic analysis is underway to verify whether the account was compromised and to identify those responsible.

The investigation follows a firestorm of criticism over a derogatory post regarding women that appeared on the Ameer’s profile. Sirajul Islam, a member of the party’s election management committee, stated that the account was breached at approximately 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 31, and the offensive content was posted shortly thereafter. While Jamaat’s technical team reportedly regained control of the account by 5:00 PM, the post had already gone viral. A General Diary (GD) has since been filed at the Hatirjheel Police Station.

The hacking claim has been met with skepticism by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Mahdi Amin, spokesperson for the BNP’s election management committee, questioned the 12-hour delay between the alleged hack and the filing of the police report. He noted that if the party knew of the breach by late afternoon, a public alert should have been issued immediately to prevent misinformation.

Currently, digital forensic experts from the DB are analyzing login data and IP addresses to determine the validity of the hacking report. This development comes amid a tense political climate as the country prepares for the national elections on February 12.
