Chief Adviser: July Uprising Youth Destined for Global Leadership
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the "Digital Device and Innovation Expo 2026" at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre on Wednesday, January 28, he emphasized that the spirit of the uprising and the potential of the IT sector are deeply interconnected.
Dr. Yunus reflected on the July movement, noting that the previous government’s decision to shut down the internet was a pivotal mistake that accelerated its downfall. He remarked that the resulting outrage among the youth proved that digital connectivity is now an inseparable part of modern freedom. He predicted that just as the uprising redefined the nation's political landscape, the innovation expo would catalyze a technological revolution in Bangladesh, shifting the country from a consumer to a global innovator.
The Chief Adviser also offered a provocative critique of traditional career paths and institutional structures, challenging the conventional focus on job-seeking. He labeled the "jobs for all" mindset as a remnant of a "slavery-like" system, urging the government and society to prioritize creating an ecosystem that empowers young people to become self-reliant entrepreneurs. To prevent institutional stagnation, Dr. Yunus proposed that no government official should remain in the same position for more than five years and recommended a complete restructuring of public institutions every decade.
Addressing the tech sector's integrity, Dr. Yunus lamented how past instances of digital fraud and forged documents had damaged Bangladesh’s international reputation. He stressed that for the country to truly excel in the global tech arena, it must eliminate fraudulent practices and build a brand based on trust and innovation. In his concluding remarks, he described the digital sector as the engine of global transformation and called upon the youth to lead the way in making Bangladesh a hub of ethical and creative technological advancement.
