Postal Ballots for Expatriates Begin Arriving in Bangladesh
According to an information update from the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday, January 28, a total of 29,728 postal ballots have been received by Returning Officers in Dhaka so far.
The EC reported that ballots were dispatched to 766,862 expatriate voters who registered through the "Postal Vote BD" mobile app. Data shows that 499,328 voters successfully received their ballots, and 432,989 have already completed the voting process. Currently, 379,579 ballots have been dropped into post offices or mailboxes in various countries across the globe.
According to the Commission's regulations, only those ballots that reach the authorities by 4:30 PM on election day, February 12, will be counted. While expatriate votes are arriving steadily, the EC noted that ballots from three internal categories—election officials, prisoners, and government employees stationed away from their home constituencies—have yet to begin returning.
The 13th National Election marks the first time technology has been integrated on such a large scale for postal voting. A total of 1,533,683 voters, both domestic and abroad, have registered via the "Postal Vote BD" app, signaling a significant technological milestone in the history of Bangladeshi elections.
