Addressing journalists, the Adviser confirmed that while the 9th National Pay Commission has submitted its formal report, the interim administration will not take steps to put it into effect. "The report on increasing salaries for government employees has been received, but this government will not initiate its implementation," he stated.

He further clarified that the final authority to implement or modify the proposed pay structure rests solely with the next elected government. "The upcoming elected government will have the discretion to either enact the new scale or cancel it entirely. This proposal will not impose any immediate financial burden on them," the Adviser added.

The 9th National Pay Commission, headed by Zakir Ahmed Khan, recently proposed a significant salary hike ranging from 100% to 147%. The recommendations included raising the minimum basic salary to Tk 20,000 (from the current Tk 8,250) and the maximum to Tk 160,000 (from Tk 78,000).

Government employees have long been demanding a revised pay structure to cope with the rising cost of living. With this latest announcement, the realization of these demands now hinges on the outcome of the upcoming general election and the subsequent policy decisions of the new administration.
