Human Rights Must Be Ensured Alongside Prison Security: Home Adviser
The Adviser made these remarks as the chief guest at the concluding parade of the 63rd Basic Training Course for female prison guards (Batch 63) held at the Prison Training Center parade ground in Kashimpur, Gazipur, on Tuesday morning, January 27.
"Ensuring humane treatment, fair facilities, and non-discriminatory social dignity for prisoners is not merely a legal obligation; it is a reflection of the state’s moral standing," Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated. "Prisons are an integral part of the criminal justice system, playing a vital role in crime prevention and the rehabilitation of offenders."
Highlighting the importance of trained and compassionate personnel, he added that prison guards are central to building a transparent and non-discriminatory prison administration. He expressed hope that the new recruits would perform their duties with patriotism, honesty, and professionalism.
The Home Adviser also issued a stern warning against corruption, labeling it the "biggest enemy of the state." He remarked that any prison official acting out of personal greed or political bias not only violates the law but also weakens the foundation of the state.
Following the ceremony, awards were distributed among the trainees for their outstanding performance. From the 63rd batch, Mst. Raihana Akter Suborna secured the first position in all subjects, including academics. Other top performers included Liza Khatun in Drill, Juthi Parveen in Unarmed Combat, and Mansura in Firing.
