Government to Establish First-Ever Military Industrial Zone in Mirsarai
Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), announced on Monday that 850 acres of land in Mirsarai will be dedicated to military industries, while 600 acres in Anwara, Chattogram, will be developed as a Free Trade Zone.
During a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, the BIDA Chairman clarified that the Mirsarai site was originally allocated for an Indian Economic Zone, but that plan has been scrapped to make way for the new Military Economic Zone. This strategic decision was finalized during the 4th governing board meeting of BEZA, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Chowdhury Ashik also mentioned that several countries with strong bilateral ties to the current government have already shown significant interest in these projects. Official details regarding international agreements will be shared once they reach a concrete stage. The move is seen as a major step toward self-reliance in defense production and expanding global trade opportunities.
