30,000 Polling Centers to Feature Body-Worn Cameras
Speaking at a press conference at the Election Building on Monday, January 26, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed revealed that 25,000 to 30,000 "body-worn" cameras will be utilized across polling stations. These cameras will be attached to law enforcement personnel, allowing for real-time monitoring of field-level situations directly from a central control room.
The Secretary further noted that a dedicated monitoring app, which was successfully piloted during the recent Durga Puja festival, will remain operational throughout election day. To bolster ground-level security and order, 16,000 Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) members will be deployed alongside the police and Ansar forces. These young volunteers will assist in voter management and maintaining discipline at the centers.
The 13th National Election and the Referendum are scheduled to take place on February 12, 2026. Voting will occur without interruption from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Voters will cast their ballots using traditional printed papers and transparent ballot boxes. The Commission emphasized that the integration of high-tech surveillance and increased manpower is aimed at delivering a free, fair, and acceptable election to the nation.
