Religious Adviser: Claims of Removing 'State Religion' for 'Yes' Vote are False
Speaking as the chief guest at the ‘National Imam Conference’ at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center on Monday, the Adviser dismissed rumors regarding constitutional changes. He clarified that reports suggesting the removal of "Bismillah" or "Islam as the State Religion" from the constitution are entirely baseless.
"A vested interest group is spreading propaganda claiming that a ‘Yes’ vote will lead to the exclusion of religious provisions from the constitution. This is a complete lie," Dr. Khalid said, urging the public not to be misled by such misinformation.
The Adviser emphasized that this referendum serves as a turning point to prevent the return of oppressive and fascist rule. He noted that while general elections focus on individual candidates, this vote is essential for the structural transformation of the nation.
Adding to the call, Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, stated that a ‘Yes’ vote aligns with the spirit of the July uprising and the aspirations of the martyrs, whereas a ‘No’ vote signifies support for fascism. He asserted that there is no room for neutrality or silence in this decisive moment.
The conference, chaired by Islamic Foundation Director General Abdus Salam Khan, was attended by several thousand Imams, alongside Religious Secretary Md. Kamal Uddin and Special Assistant Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury.
