The 60-bed modern Mother and Child Hospital was formally inaugurated on Tuesday at Chakmarkul. According to the organization, the facility is designed to provide safe motherhood and advanced healthcare services to both the local host community and Rohingya refugees.

The hospital will operate 24 hours a day, offering emergency obstetric care alongside primary health services, prenatal care, and treatment for malnourished children. Additionally, the facility includes specialized support for survivors of gender-based violence, diagnostic testing services, and a free pharmacy. Authorities confirmed that advanced medical procedures, including Cesarean sections, emergency neonatal care, and blood transfusion services, will be phased in shortly.

Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Abu Saleh Mohammad Obaidullah attended the inauguration as the chief guest. He praised the initiative as a timely intervention and assured full government cooperation. Golam Mostafa, Director of Save the Children Cox’s Bazar, emphasized that the hospital will play a vital role in reducing the risks mothers and infants face during pregnancy and childbirth.

The establishment of this hospital comes at a critical juncture. With international donor funding declining in 2025, several humanitarian aid centers in Cox’s Bazar have been forced to close. Stakeholders believe this new facility will fill a major gap in the healthcare infrastructure of the Ukhia and Teknaf regions. To ensure comprehensive care, the hospital also features a 24-hour ambulance service and a structured referral system for critical patients.
