ACC to Charge Sheet Journalist Nayeemul Islam Khan and Wife over Asset Declaration Failure
On Thursday (January 22), ACC Director General Md. Akter Hossain confirmed the approval of the charge sheets in two separate cases.
Investigation and Legal Context: According to the investigation report, the ACC found preliminary evidence of wealth beyond known sources of income belonging to the couple. Consequently, on July 17 last year, the commission issued an order under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, requiring them to submit a detailed statement of their assets.
Reason for Prosecution: Despite the 21-working-day deadline, neither Nayeemul Islam Khan nor his wife submitted the required documents. Furthermore, they did not apply for any time extension through the proper channels. The ACC determined that this failure constitutes a punishable offense under Section 26(2) of the ACC Act, leading to the initial filing of cases on October 30, 2025, and the subsequent approval of the charge sheets today.
The cases were originally filed by ACC Assistant Director Bilkis Akter and investigated by Assistant Director Emran Hossain.
