The announcement was made in a press release signed by CID’s Special Superintendent of Police (Media), Jashim Uddin Khan, on Thursday, January 22.

The CID investigation revealed sensational details regarding Monirul’s fraudulent operations. He primarily targeted elderly individuals on Facebook. To gain their trust, he would pose as a renowned physician, a college principal, or even a Private Secretary (PS) to the Prime Minister.

He reportedly went as far as mimicking a female voice over the phone, claiming his parents were critically ill to solicit large sums of money as "loans." Once the funds were received, the fraudster would switch off his phone and go into hiding.

In addition to using his own bank accounts, Monirul conducted transactions through bKash accounts opened using the National Identity Cards (NID) of others. With the laundered money, he purchased a 7.5-decimal plot in the Amulia Model Town of Demra and a 2,150-square-foot luxury flat in the Darus Salam area of the capital.

The CID filed a case against him under the Money Laundering Prevention Act at Badda Police Station on February 8, 2023. Following initial evidence proving the embezzlement of BDT 24.74 lakh, the court ordered the confiscation of his illegal assets in favor of the state. The Financial Crime Unit of the CID is currently conducting further investigations into the case.
