New Pay Scale Proposes Tk 20,000 Minimum Salary
Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed mentioned that a formal committee would soon be established to work on the implementation process of these new recommendations.
The commission has recommended revising the 20 existing pay scales, proposing a minimum basic salary of BDT 20,000 and a maximum of BDT 1,60,000. Currently, the government spends BDT 1.31 lakh crore on its 1.4 million employees and 0.9 million pensioners; the new proposal would require an additional BDT 1.06 lakh crore. Remarkably, the commission completed the entire research and report preparation using only 18% of its total allocated budget.
Beyond the basic salary hike, the report introduces several innovative welfare measures, including the introduction of health insurance for all government employees. Other key recommendations include reforming the pension system, establishing a Service Commission, and reorganizing the Employee Welfare Board. The commission focused on aligning salaries with the rising cost of living while also proposing strategic human resource development in the health and education sectors.
