Rajbari Chhatra League President Arrested at Airport While Fleeing the Country
Immigration police detained him after confirming his identity and handed him over to the Airport Police Station. He was later transferred to the custody of the Rajbari District Police on Friday evening.
According to Tapas Kumar Paul, Additional Superintendent of Police in Rajbari, Shahin Sheikh is an accused in at least four cases related to attacks on students, gunfire, and attempted murder during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 5, 2024. He had been in hiding since the fall of the Awami League government.
Police officials stated that they are preparing to produce him before the court with a remand prayer to facilitate a thorough investigation and to identify the primary masterminds behind the August 5 violence.
Shahin Sheikh took charge as the president of the Rajbari District Chhatra League in March 2022. Since his appointment, he has faced numerous allegations of exercising undue power and involvement in various incidents of violence. News of his arrest has triggered a wave of reactions among local students and residents in Rajbari.
