EC Completes 7th Day of Appeal Hearings: 18 More Candidates Regain Eligibility
Despite being a public holiday, the commission conducted hearings from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday (January 16) at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon.
During today's session, 43 appeals (serial numbers 481 to 510) were addressed. Out of these, 18 appeals were approved, allowing those candidates to rejoin the electoral race. Meanwhile, 21 appeals were rejected, and decisions on 4 applications remain pending.
A total of 645 appeals were filed with the EC challenging the initial decisions made by Returning Officers. During the primary scrutiny on January 4, out of 2,568 nomination papers submitted across 300 constituencies, 1,842 were declared valid while 723 were cancelled. The current hearing process, which continues until January 18, serves as a final opportunity for disqualified aspirants to validate their candidacy.
