On Wednesday, January 14, the Chief Adviser made these remarks at the state guest house, Jamuna, during a ceremony where BSC handed over a check of Tk 237.47 crore to the government as part of its debt repayment. Shipping Adviser M. Sakhawat Hossain and BSC Managing Director Commodore Mahmudul Malek presented the check to the Chief Adviser.

Professor Yunus stated that future plans must be designed so that BSC can strengthen itself through its own revenue and expand its fleet with new vessels. This, he noted, would boost the morale of the country's seafarers and create new employment opportunities.

He further added that to produce world-class mariners, it is essential to ensure proper remuneration and facilities for the instructors at marine academies.

BSC Managing Director Commodore Mahmudul Malek explained that this payment was made as part of the repayment of loans taken for the procurement of six ships from China under a G-to-G (Government-to-Government) basis. Five of these ships are currently active in international commercial shipping, carrying the flag of Bangladesh.

He also shared that in BSC's 54-year history, the institution earned approximately Tk 800 crore in the last fiscal year, with a record profit of over Tk 306 crore. To continue this momentum, the process of acquiring new bulk carriers and oil tankers is currently underway.
