The government’s decision has been formally communicated to relevant countries through Bangladeshi diplomatic missions at home and abroad. In response, the governments of Bhutan and Maldives have already issued travel advisories for their citizens.

On Tuesday, the Bhutanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a briefing that the Bangladesh Embassy in Thimphu officially notified them of the suspension. Bhutanese citizens, who usually enjoy on-arrival privileges, are now advised to apply for advance visas at the Bangladesh Embassy in Thimphu if they plan to travel during this period.

Similarly, the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a directive noting that the suspension is part of Bangladesh’s heightened security measures for the elections. Maldivian travelers are urged to obtain a visa from the Bangladesh High Commission in Hulhumalé prior to their departure.

Officials view this decision as a necessary step to maintain overall law and order and ensure security during the election period.
