These individuals were detained and penalized following their participation in demonstrations held within the UAE during the July 2024 mass protests in Bangladesh. As public protests are prohibited under UAE law, the individuals faced legal consequences and imprisonment. Following a formal request from the Interim Government of Bangladesh to consider their cases on humanitarian grounds, the UAE President approved their release.

According to the embassy statement, all 25 pardoned citizens have been released and repatriated to Bangladesh. This act of clemency highlights the deep-rooted diplomatic ties and fraternal bond between the two nations, showcasing the UAE leadership’s commitment to justice, tolerance, and compassion. Notably, this follows previous rounds of pardons granted to other Bangladeshis involved in similar incidents.
