US Administration Assures Bangladesh on Visa Bond Issue

According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, Dr. Khalilur Rahman specifically requested that Bangladeshi businesspersons be exempted from the "Visa Bond" requirement for B-1 (short-term business) visas. In response, Allison Hooker assured him that the matter would be considered with importance. She noted that the necessity of the bond system could be re-evaluated in the future if the overstay rate of visitors significantly decreases.

During the meeting, Hooker praised Dhaka’s sincere cooperation in repatriating undocumented Bangladeshis. Discussions also covered several critical issues, including Bangladesh’s upcoming national election, economic and trade relations, and the Rohingya crisis.

Dr. Khalilur Rahman briefed her on the preparations for the upcoming election and expressed gratitude for U.S. support during the interim government's tenure. Hooker affirmed that U.S. support for Bangladesh’s democratic transition would continue, noting that a free and fair election is expected in February.

While thanking the U.S. for its assistance regarding the Rohingya crisis, Dr. Rahman urged for continued cooperation. He also requested DFC (Development Finance Corporation) funding and financial assistance for the development of the semiconductor industry in Bangladesh.
