Multiple diplomatic sources in Mumbai reported that approximately 150 extremists, under the banner of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), suddenly gathered in front of the mission and began protesting. During the demonstration, they chanted provocative and anti-Bangladesh slogans, including "Bangladesh Murdabad," and desecrated the national flag.

As the situation escalated, local security forces intervened quickly to remove the protesters from the mission area. Sources confirmed that no damage was caused to the mission’s infrastructure and all officials on duty remain safe due to the prompt action of security personnel.

Diplomatic circles noted an increase in activities by radical groups targeting various Bangladeshi missions in India recently. While these attacks are reportedly carried out over allegations of minority persecution in Bangladesh, experts view such claims as baseless and motivated. Similar incidents have previously occurred at Bangladesh missions and visa centers in Delhi and other locations, alongside death threats issued to the High Commissioner in Dhaka.

In light of the security situation, the Bangladesh Mission in Kolkata has temporarily suspended tourist visas for Indian citizens. However, employment and business visa services remain operational. Diplomatic sources suggest this precautionary measure aims to prevent potential instability ahead of the upcoming national elections.
