YouTube Hit by Major Global Outage: Millions of Users Left in Frustration
Millions of users worldwide, particularly across the United States, reported significant disruptions starting early in the morning.
According to data from the outage-tracking website DownDetector, reports peaked at over 320,000 incidents in the US alone. Affected users encountered persistent "Something went wrong" error messages, while many found themselves unable to load the homepage, access the mobile app, or stream content on YouTube Music, YouTube Kids, and YouTube TV. The glitch also significantly impacted the platform’s recommendation system, leaving homefeeds blank for several hours.
As news of the disruption spread, the hashtag #YouTubeDOWN quickly began trending on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, where users shared their frustration through memes and troubleshooting complaints. While initial reports were concentrated in North America, the outage was global in scope, with thousands of reports also emerging from India, the UK, Australia, and Mexico.
Google-owned YouTube acknowledged the crisis through its official "TeamYouTube" handle, confirming that their engineering teams were working urgently on a resolution. By approximately 10:00 AM IST, YouTube issued a final update stating that the issue with the recommendation system had been resolved and all services—including the app and website—had returned to normal.
